If you end up using a Butterflylabs Single, make sure to optimize the hashing.

According to BFL you can improve the hashing power by a couple hundred hash using their
EasyMiner software. Here's the link I got from their website: http://www.butterflylabs.us/drivers/

Until someone actually ships one of these things, I'd recommend you be VERY wary of placing any deposits with anyone. ASICs are not like a software project - you don't just keep iterating until you get it right. A small mistake anywhere along the chain can mean totally useless parts and delays of months - not to mention huge costs to re-spin chips. This means you need to hire expensive ASIC engineers ($15K/mo on contract) and lease VERY expensive software ($20K/mo) to verify your design correctly.

BTW, the BTCFPGA team announced in the forums that they are still looking for someone to help them fab this supposed chip. They can't possibly know what they are getting themselves into, nor what it will cost... Please everyone - CAVEAT EMPTOR...

Okay, I'll give them both a footnote at the end of the article. Thanks for the info! Side note: If you hadn't told me, I'd be hard pressed to say what that last one was considering it's all in Russian, a language I don't speak (yet?) :(

They are a mining op developing an ASIC for mining internally only, they won't be selling the hardware.

Hi Steve,

I wasn't aware of this project and it's equal parts interesting and awesome, but I don't see a purchaseable product yet. If at some point they start preorders for something I'll gladly give them their own article, though!
